The participants meet at the edge of the Niepolomice Forest near Krakow in the afternoon or in the evening. The event starts with a slice of bread spread with lard and a cup of mulled wine. After listening about the Niepolomice legends and tales, they are driven away in carriages or sleighs into the depth of the forest.
In the thicket of the forest they are divided into groups and go royal hunting. There are a lot of activities during which they will have to demonstrate the skills worthy true hunters, as the programme involves wild boar hunting with a spear, European bison hunting with a lance, beaver hunting, shooting a bow to a roe deer (no live animal will suffer as a result of these activities). After completing the task each team receives a trophy – a clay pitcher.
After the hunt, the participants go to a feast at a knights’ camp with bonfire and tables sumptuously laid with delicious Polish dishes and drinks. During the feast the king awards the best team. The official weighing of pitchers, presenting the participants with gifts and awarding the titles of “hunters” takes place. The guests also take part in a game called “the gasconade competition.”
